She received the [[Sahitya Akademi Award]] in 1982 for her short story collection, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Swarnakamalalu&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&lt;br /&gt;

==Biography==&lt;br /&gt;
Saraswati Devi was born in 1918 in Andhra Pradesh, India. She started the Andhra Yuvati Mandali, a women&amp;#039;s educational and social organization in 1936. Some time after 1950, she completed a course in journalism at [[Osmania University]]. Subsequently she published several short stories in journals such as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Bharati&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Sujata&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. She served as a member of the both central and state Film Award Committees. She has published over forty works, including twelve novels, several plays, and essays, biographies and short stories. She has used literature as a way of upholding ethical and cultural values. Her other significant works are the novels: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Muthyalu Manasu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1962; &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Muthtalu&amp;#039;s heart&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Darijerina Pranulu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1963; &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Lives That Have Reached the Shore&amp;#039;&amp;#039;), &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Tejomurtulu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1976; &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Icons of Light&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Akkaraku Vacchina Chuttamu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1967, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;A Helpful Relative&amp;#039;&amp;#039;); and the short story collection: &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Raja Hamsalu&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1981, The Royal Swans). In appreciation of her services to literature she was honoured in 1964 with the Grihalakshmi Sanstha Gold Bangle Award. The Andhra Pradesh Sahitya Akademi awarded her the Best Woman Writer Award in 1974.
