The Indian '''Two paise''' ({{langx|hi|दो पैसे}}) (singular: ''Paisa''), is a former denomination of the [[Indian Rupee]]. The 2[[File:Indian Paisa symbol.svg|8px]] coin equals {{frac|1|50}} of the Indian Rupee. The symbol for Paisa is ([[File:Indian Paisa symbol.svg|8px]]).

==History==

Prior to 1957, the [[Indian rupee]] was not [[Decimalisation|decimalised]] and the rupee from 1835 to 1957 [[Anno Domini|AD]] was further divided into 16 [[Anna (monetary subunit)|annas]]. Each anna was further divided to four [[Indian pice]]s and each pice into three [[Pie (monetary subunit)|pies]] till 1947 when the pie was demonetised. In 1955, India amended the "[[The Indian Coinage Act, 1906|Indian Coinage Act]]" to adopt the metric system for coinage. Paisa coins were introduced in 1957, but from 1957 to 1964 the coin was called "Naya Paisa" (English: ''New Paisa''). On 1 June 1964, the term "Naya" was dropped and the denomination was simply called "One paisa". ==Mintage==
Two paise coins was minted only in the year 1964 at the [[India Government Mint, Mumbai|India Government mint]] in [[Mumbai|Bombay]] (present day Mumbai) and borne symbol ⧫ (small dot/diamond) as mint mark. Two paise coins were minted from [[Cupronickel]] alloy in [[Coin orientation|medallic orientation]]. The coins weighed 2.95 grams, had a diameter of {{convert|18|mm|in}} and thickness of {{convert|1.8|mm|in}}. Scalloped with eight notches, the coins had smooth edge.<ref name="2 paise coins"/><ref name="2 Paise"/>
