It initially operated under the auspices of the [[East India Company]] The [[Episcopal see|Sees]] of [[Diocese of Madras of the Church of South India|Madras]] and [[Diocese of Mumbai of the Church of North India|Bombay]] were added to that of [[Diocese of Calcutta of the Church of North India|Calcutta]] in 1833. Later they became employees of the Governments of the Presidencies of [[Bengal Presidency|Bengal]], [[Madras Presidency|Madras]] and [[Bombay]]. It was abolished in 1948.<br />
