The lead to establish an all-India national congress of historians was taken by [[Pune|Poona]] historians during the period of [[British Raj|British colonial rule]]. The 79th session of the IHC, initially scheduled to be held at Savitribai Phule University, Pune, in December, 2018 was postponed. Now the [[Government of Madhya Pradesh]] has shown interest to conduct the event at Barkatullah University, Bhopal.
