Male literacy is 70% and female literacy is 54.54%. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas set up the [[Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology]] at Jais. It has been accorded "[[Institute of National Importance]]" status and a governance structure similar to that available to [[IITs]].
