Major General &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;James Stevenson&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (died 1805) was a British [[East India Company]] cavalry officer who saw extensive service throughout the [[Indian subcontinent]]. He commanded a cavalry [[squadron (army)|squadron]] at the battles of [[Battle of Seringapatam|Seringapatam]] and Mallavelly, and in late 1800 he was temporarily appointed as district governor of [[Kingdom of Mysore|Mysore]].&amp;lt;ref name=&amp;quot;Millar18&amp;quot;&amp;gt;{{cite book| last=Millar |first=Simon |title=Assaye 1803: Wellington&amp;#039;s First and &amp;#039;Bloodiest&amp;#039; Victory |publisher=[[Osprey Publishing]] | location= Oxford |year=2006 |isbn=1-84603-001-3|page=18 }}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He took part in the [[Second Anglo-Maratha War]] in which he served as Major General [[Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington|Arthur Wellesley&amp;#039;s]] senior subordinate and led the successful assaults on the [[Maratha confederacy|Maratha]] strongholds at [[Jalna (city)|Jalna]], [[Burhanpur]] and [[Asirgarh]].
