He obtained a [[Bachelor of Science|B.S.]] from [[Presidency College, Kolkata|Presidency College]], then affiliated with the [[University of Calcutta]], and subsequently a [[Master of Arts|M.A.]] and a [[Doctor of Philosophy|Ph.D.]] from the [[University of Calcutta]] under the supervision of [[H. K. Nandi]].
