'''Jayawantiben Mehta''' (20 December 1938 – 7 November 2016) was an Indian politician. She was a member of the [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] (BJP).<br />

She entered politics in 1962 and was elected as municipal councillor of [[Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation|Bombay Municipal Corporation]] in 1968. Subsequently, she was re-elected and served as municipal councillor for 10 years.<br />

During the Emergency declared in 1975, she was imprisoned for 19 months. Jayawantiben was elected to the Maharashtra legislative assembly in 1978 and served 2 terms up to 1985 from [[Opera House (Vidhan Sabha constituency)|Opera House constituency]].<br />

In 1980, she was made a member of the national executive of the BJP and in 1988, she was made the All India Secretary.<br />

In 1989, she was first elected to the [[Lok Sabha]]. She was subsequently re-elected in 1996 and 1999 and was made a Minister of state for Power in the [[Third Vajpayee ministry|Vajpayee Government]] from 1999 to 2004.<br />
