Gogte was born on 26 May 1956 in [[Bijapur]], India, to Dharnendra and Hemalata Devali-Rao ({{née|Nadkarni}}). Her parents were [[Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin|Chitrapur Saraswat]] [[brahmin]]s. From July 1977 till June 1979, Gogte was employed as a lecturer by the [[SNDT Women's University|Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackeray Arts & Commerce College for Women]] in [[Pune]].
