==Life and career==
K. P. Viswanathan was affiliated with the Indian Youth Congress, serving as Thrissur District President of the Youth Congress from 1967 to 1970. He won the [[1977 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|1977]], and [[1980 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|1980]], and [[1987 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|1987]] Kerala Legislative Assembly elections to represent Kunnamkulam on behalf of the [[Indian National Congress]]. He returned to the [[Kerala Legislative Assembly]] in 1987, [[1991 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|1991]], [[1996 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|1996]], and [[2001 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|2001]], as a representative of [[Kodakara]]. He also sought the Kodakara seat in [[2006 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|2006]] and [[2011 Kerala Legislative Assembly election|2011]], losing to [[C. Raveendranath]].
