Doad was born in 1926 in [[Faridkot district|Faridkot]] to father Narain Singh. He married Roop Kaur.<ref name=":02" /><br />

Doad completed his [[Bachelor of Arts|B.A.]], [[Bachelor of Laws|LL.B.]] at [[Faridkot, Punjab|Faridkot]], [[Jalandhar]] and [[Chandigarh]].<ref name=":02" /><br />

== Political career ==<br />
Doad was an Executive of [[All India Sikh Students Federation]] from 1946 to 1948. He was also the working committee member of [[Shiromani Akali Dal]] from 1955 to 1958. He served as a member and executive of [[Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee|Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee]] from 1955 to 1960.<ref name=":02" /><br />

He was appointed as Director of Punjab State Cooperative Land Mortgage Bank, [[Chandigarh]] in 1962 and held this position till 1968.
