In Hindu mythology, the [[Deva (Hinduism)|deva]]s and the [[asura]]s performed the churning of the ocean of milk ([[Samudra manthan|Samudra Manthana]]) in order to obtain [[amrita]], the elixir of immortality. During this process, fourteen jewels ([[Samudra manthan#Ratnas|ratnas]]) emerged from the ocean.
