As per Gazettee No. 939, dated the 26 January 2022, the old Guntur district, formed in 1904, was split into [[Guntur district]], [[Palnadu district]] and [[Bapatla district]]. 12 madals from [[Tenali revenue division]] and 13 mandals from [[Prakasam district]] was merged into the newly formed Bapatla district.<ref>{{cite web| url = https://bapatla.ap.gov.in/history/ | title= Bapatla District | work= About District > History |publisher= Government of Andhra Pradesh| access-date = 4 September 2023}}</ref>

The total population constitute, 27,953 males and 28,709 females —a sex ratio of 1027 females per 1000 males. 4,486 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 2,268 are boys and 2,218 are girls —a ratio of 978 per 1000. The average literacy rate stands at 72.19% with 37,663 literates. [[Kollipara]] is the most populated and Kunchavaram is the least populated villages in the mandal.<ref name="census" />

== Education ==

The mandal plays a major role in education for the rural students of the nearby villages.
