Then for first time he elected from [[Qadian Assembly Constituency|Qadian]] in 2007 and then he contested from [[Batala Assembly Constituency|Batala]] in 2012 but lost from [[Ashwani Sekhri]] then again contested from [[Batala Assembly Constituency|Batala]] in 2017 and won. He is the first [[Shiromani Akali Dal|Akali]] MLA from Batala.<br />
