Chundawat was born on 24 June 1916 in [[Deogarh, Rajasthan|Deogarh]], a prominent thikana (feudal estate) in the princely state of [[Kingdom of Mewar|Mewar, Rajasthan]]. She married Rawat Tej Singh of [[Rawatsar]], a chief in the former [[Bikaner State|Bikaner state]], becoming the Rani of [[Rawatsar]].
