Born in [[Mizoram]], Lalruatthara attended trials for the Chandigarh Football Academy in 2009 and managed to make it.<ref name="MO">{{cite news|last1=Hariprasad|first1=A|title=Blasters’ young gun Lalruatthara dreams of donning India colors|url=http://english.manoramaonline.com/in-depth/indian-super-league-isl-4/isl-specials/2017/12/28/kerala-blasters-lalruatthara-mizoram-berbatov-wes-cbrown.html|accessdate=8 January 2018|work=Manorama Online|date=29 December 2017}}</ref> He was soon though rejected from the academy for unknown reasons, with even Lalruatthara being confused over his exclusion.<ref name="MO"/> He soon joined the youth team of [[Luangmual F.C.|Luangmual]] before signing a senior contract with [[Chanmari F.C.|Chanmari]] of the [[Mizoram Premier League]].<ref name="MO"/> He was part of the Chanmari side that won the 2013–14 edition of the Premier League and then the [[Mizoram football team|Mizoram]] team that won the [[2014 Santosh Trophy]].<ref name="MO"/>
