Bishop Leo Cornelio was born in [[Kallianpur]], in [[Udupi]] on 14 March 1945 to Mr. Valerian Cornelio and Mrs. Rose Cornelio. At the age of thirteen he joined [[Society of the Divine Word|Divine Word Missionary]] (SVD). He completed his minor seminary studies from Rajeshwar Vidhyalaya, [[Mhow]] in [[Madhya Pradesh]] in 1962.
