MIT World Peace University was formerly known as the (Maharashtra Institute of Technology) group of institutions.<ref>{{Citation|url=http://www.mitpune.com|title=MIT Pune|access-date=2019-02-10|language=en-US}}</ref> Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), established in 1983, was the first college of the MAEER's group of institutions and one of the first private engineering colleges in Maharashtra. [[Raj Kapoor]] and his parents' [[Samadhi (shrine)|Samadhi]] (memorial) is at their family farm ''"Rajbaugh"'', which means the ''"king of gardens"''. Located inside the MIT Art Design Technology University (MIT ADT), Rajbaugh lies on the banks of [[Mula-Mutha River|the Mula-Mutha River]] in [[Loni Kalbhor]] village 30 km east of [[Pune]] in Maharashtra. [[Kapoor family]] sold part of 125 acres of Rajbaugh to MIT which built a memorial for the Kapoor family on its campus. The Memorial was unveiled in 2014 in the presence of [[Lata Mangeshkar]] and Kapoor clan. Kapoor family memorial has 7 pagodas showing elements of Raj Kapoor's movies, a museum or viewing a gallery which shows family photographs and moments from his movie making from 1945 to 1990. Raj Kapoor shot many of his films at this farm, including [[Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978 film)|Satyam Shivam Sundaram]], [[Mera Naam Joker]], [[Bobby (1973 film)|Bobby]], [[Prem Rog]] and more. The Faculty of Engineering consists of two colleges '''Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune''' & '''MIT College of Engineering, Pune'''. Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune was established in 1983 and MIT College of Engineering was established in 2001. In 2017, the MIT Group of Institutes was awarded university status and both the colleges were merged to form the MIT-WPU Faculty of Engineering. MITCIE regularly takes part in an international robotics event called ROBOCON hosted by MIT in association with Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The technical event of MITCOE is called TESLA, which includes competitions, workshops and seminars. It was formerly known as Pinnacle and is scheduled in September each year.
