He was awarded the [[Padma Bhushan]] by the [[Government of India]]. He taught the [[Kaplingadan]] style of Kathakali performance and was also one of the last practitioners of the south [[Kerala]] style ([[Kaplingadan]]) school of the classical dance-drama.
