==History==
Madhoganj originated as a bazaar in the village of [[Rudamau]].<ref name="Gazetteer"/> At the turn of the 20th century, it was described as "a thriving centre of trade in grain, cotton, and other articles."<ref name="Gazetteer"/> It had a post office, an upper primary school, and a police force of 11 officers.<ref name="Gazetteer"/>

Madhoganj's [[municipal board]] was established in 1872.<ref name="Census 1961">{{cite book |title=Census 1961: District Census Handbook, Uttar Pradesh (36 - Hardoi District) |date=1965 |location=Lucknow |pages=III, 149, 166 |url=http://lsi.gov.in:8081/jspui/bitstream/123456789/987/1/22855_1961_HAR.pdf |access-date=5 June 2021}}</ref> In 1903, a railway [[branch line]] was built between Madhoganj and [[Balamau]].<ref name="Gazetteer"/> Then in 1909, another line was built connecting Madhoganj with [[Sandi, Uttar Pradesh|Sandi]] via Bilgram.<ref name="Census 1961"/>

The [[1961 Census of India|1961 census]] did not count Madhoganj among the urban areas of Hardoi district, due to "non-fulfilment of urban conditions."<ref name="Census 1961"/> Madhoganj's market, held on Tuesdays and Fridays and mainly dealing in grain and [[Kirana store|kirana]] items, was recorded as having an average attendance of 6,000 people at the time.<ref name="Census 1961"/>

==Economy==
