Deolekar was closely associated with the [[Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh]] (RSS), [[Jan Sangh]], and later the BJP, where he held the position of party general secretary for the Mumbai unit. In addition to his political career, Deolekar was an independent journalist and a lawyer.
