The '''Maha Yuti''' or the Grand Alliance was an Indian Political Alliance that existed in the state of [[Maharashtra]], with the [[Shiv Sena]]-[[Bharatiya Janata Party]] as the Primary stakeholders of the Alliance, the Alliance existed from 1989 till 2019, when both parties although gained majority in the recent [[2019 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election]], failed to approach on a common consensus regarding the sharing of [[Chief minister of Maharashtra|Chief Ministerial Post]], thus formally ending the 30 year old Alliance.

== Formation ==
In 1989, [[Shiv Sena]] Supremo [[Bal Thackeray|Balasaheb Thackeray]] approached [[Pramod Mahajan]] of the [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] to form an Alliance for the upcoming State polls, As both the parties were and are sharing a common ideology of Hindutva, it was easier for them to chalk out an Alliance. [[Pramod Mahajan]] conveyed this message to the then [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] leaders [[L. K. Advani]] and [[Atal Bihari Vajpayee]], both agreed to form the alliance with seeing this as an opportunity to expand in the West politically.

After the acceptance of [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] and [[Shiv Sena]], [[Bal Thackeray]] from [[Shiv Sena]] and [[L. K. Advani]] from the [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] exchanged conversations in rapid meetings held in [[Mumbai]] and [[Delhi]] respectively.

== Emerging of Main Opposition against the INC in Maharashtra ==
Just after the formation of the alliance, the next year [[1990 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election]]s were held. The [[Shiv Sena]] contested on 183 seats and the [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] contested on 104 seats. The election saw the MahaYuti gaining the main opposition status against the lone [[Indian National Congress]].
