The [[Shiva]] temples, named Panchananda and Sasaneswar, established by the Kundu Choudhury family, are more than a century old.<ref name=purakirti/>

Mahiari houses several industrial activity especially in the northern areas near Alampur. Leading industries are steel, engineering and instrumentation, motor vehicle, jewellery, dairy etc. Previously there was a large operation of Frigerio Conserva Allana Ltd at the southern part near [[Mourigram railway station]].
