==Eminent personalities==&lt;br /&gt;
*[[Satish Chandra Samanta]] – Indian independence movement activist.&lt;br /&gt;
*[[Suryakant Tripathi &amp;#039;Nirala&amp;#039;]] – one of the most significant poets of modern [[Hindi literature]]. He went to school at Mahishadal.  His father was employed in the princely estate&amp;#039;s &amp;#039;army&amp;#039;. Later Nirala worked as a scribe and accountant for the Raja for sometime, wrote Satti Khanna in a companion piece, Bhavbhay Darunam: Terror of Being, which was published with his translation of Nirala&amp;#039;s autobiography, A Life Misspent. Not many know that Nirala was fluent in Bengali.&lt;br /&gt;

A businessman from north India, Janardhan Upadhyay Garg, developed a large estate in the 16th century. There are two palaces – the old one was built in 1840 and the new one in 1935. One can see stuffed animals, hunting weapons of the 16th and 17th century, paintings and furniture. Gopaljew and Ramjew temples are popular with tourists.
