It is a [[Mail trains in India|Mail]] train daily operated by the [[Indian Railways]] ([[Southern Railway zone|Southern Railway]]) between the cities of [[Chennai Central|Chennai]] and [[Mangalore Central|Mangaluru]] via Vellore(Katpadi), Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore(Podanur), Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur.The people of Mangaluru want the train to be diverted via [[Hassan Junction railway station|Hassan Junction]],[[Mysore Junction railway station|MYSURU]],[[Bangalore City railway station|KSR BENGALURU]],[[Katpadi Junction railway station|KATPADI]] which is the shorter route from Mangaluru compared to the route via Kerala,Tamilnadu.Also it will connect the capital and Mysuru.&lt;br /&gt;

This train was replacement of [[Malabar Express]] which was diverted to connect [[Trivandrum]] to [[Mangalore]] in 1940. It was introduced as Mangalore Express on  July 1, 1940 which become 1/2 Mangalore Mail in 1944 &amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;[https://indiarailinfo.com/blog/post/4987589/14#4987589-14]&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
It was the first-ever train to enter Kerala with electric locomotive.&lt;br /&gt;
