The university also has campuses in  [[Mangalore]], [[Bangalore]]  and [[Jamshedpur]] in India, and a global campus in [[Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai|Dubai]] and [[Malacca]] (Malaysia). In 1953, [[T. M. A. Pai|Dr. T. M. A. Pai]] founded India&amp;#039;s first private medical school, the [[Kasturba Medical College]],&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web|first1=Mitu |last1=Jayashankar| first2=Nilofer |last2=D&amp;#039;Souza|url=http://forbesindia.com/printcontent/28302|work=Forbes India Magazine |date=September 12, 2011| title=(untitled article)}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; and five years later the [[Manipal Institute of Technology]] was established. Initially, degrees were awarded by [[Karnataka University Dharwad|Karnataka University, Dharwad]] and later by the [[University of Mysore]]. From 1980 to 1993 they were awarded by [[Mangalore University]].
