In April 2018, former [[Navelim Assembly constituency|Navelim]] [[MLA (India)|MLA]] [[Avertano Furtado]] assumed the presidency of the Association for the Wellbeing of Elder Sportspersons (AWES) [[unopposed|without opposition]] during the organization's annual general body meeting.
