The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Medak Gun&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is 30mm automatic cannon. It is primarily an army gun used on Sarath infantry armoured vehicle. It is based upon the [[Shipunov 2A42]] gun used in the Russian-designed BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicle.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The BMP-2 vehicle along with the gun has been manufactured under license by Indian [[Ordnance Factory Medak]] as Sarath since August 1987.&lt;br /&gt;
The Medak Gun is based on a modular and flexible in design.&lt;br /&gt;
The manufacturer have also installed it in small warships using a modified turret as [[CRN 91 Naval Gun]] The original armoured vehicle turret had a two-man crew, but it has an automatic version with a day-night electro-optic fire control system which has been developed jointly by the [[Ordnance Factories Board]] (OFB) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for maritime use.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
SALIENT FEATURES :&lt;br /&gt;
 &lt;br /&gt;
* Length of the barrel is 3027&amp;amp;nbsp;mm., one of the longest barrel in comparison with the guns of similar calibre.&lt;br /&gt;
* The recoil thrust is 4000 to 5000 kgf (40 to 50 KN)&lt;br /&gt;
* The muzzle brake is designed to withstand 40% of the total recoil thrust.&lt;br /&gt;
* The gun is stabilised for yaw and pitch with the help of two gyros.&lt;br /&gt;
* There is no hydraulic or pneumatic system associated with the gun or its assemblies. Almost all the functions are performed with 27 V DC supply.&lt;br /&gt;
* The gun although designed to be cocked manually, provision exists to cock the gun using squib in emergency.&lt;br /&gt;
* There are mechanical/electronic limiting switches in traverse.&lt;br /&gt;
* The lower part of the turret which houses sensitive electrical/electronic devices are protected in bottom stand with FRP panels.&lt;br /&gt;
* Konkurs anti tank wire guided missile and 7.62&amp;amp;nbsp;mm PKT machine gun  can be provided on Upper part of turret.&lt;br /&gt;
* The communication system to the turret can be incorporated.&lt;br /&gt;
* Fire fighting equipment and temperature sensors can be provided.&lt;br /&gt;
* Installation of Medak Gun System on board is easy and simple.&lt;br /&gt;
* The gun is easy in its operation, particularly in comparison to all other small calibre guns being used in Navy.&lt;br /&gt;
