The Ministry of Woman, Children and Development who award the prize highlighted Sharma&amp;#039;s influence on government policy. They acknowledged her help in created the [[Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007|Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act]] in 2007 after Sharma had conducted a sting operation to expose the treatment of older people.&amp;lt;ref name=wcd/&amp;gt; The act made heirs legally responsible to pay for the maintenance of older people.
