Ajay Shankar Prasanna, born in 1969, is a masterful Indian classical flautist steeped in the Hindustani bansuri tradition. Coming from a musical family in the Banaras (or Varanasi) Gharana of flute players, he carries forward a rich legacy.[1]
Early life and training
Ajay Prasanna grew up in a family immersed in Indian classical music. His father, Pandit Bholanath Prasanna, was a celebrated bansuri maestro from the Banaras Gharana and mentored many top flautists. From a tender age, Ajay learned the flute directly from his dad, soaking up the timeless techniques of Hindustani music through close observation. He made his public debut at just six years old, performing at the prestigious Akhil Bharatiya Sangeet Sammelan.
