The notable members of the family include Amitabh's parents, poet [[Harivansh Rai Bachchan]] and social activist [[Teji Bachchan]]; his wife, actress [[Jaya Bhaduri]]; their daughter [[Shweta Bachchan Nanda]]; their son, actor [[Abhishek Bachchan]]; and Abhishek's wife, actress [[Aishwarya Rai]]. The Bachchan family came from an Indian [[Awadhi people|Awadhi]] [[Hindu]] background and they were [[Chitraguptavanshi Kayastha]]s that were fluent in several [[Hindustani language|Hindustani]] dialects ([[Awadhi language|Awadhi]], [[Hindi]], [[Urdu]]) as well as [[Persian language|Persian]].<ref name="West-Pavlov">{{cite book |last=West-Pavlov |first=Russell |title=The Global South and Literature |date=2018 |publisher=[[Cambridge University Press]] |isbn=978-1-108-24631-6 |page=167 |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=yMdJDwAAQBAJ&pg=PA167}}</ref> The family also has Punjabi ethnic roots throuh patriarch Amitabh's mother [[Teji Bachchan]] (née Suri) and [[Bengal]]i ethnic roots through wife of Amitabh [[Jaya Bachchan]] (née Bhaduri). Bachchan family also has roots in [[Mangalore]] region of [[South India]] through Abhishek Bachchan's wife [[Aishwarya Rai Bachchan]] who hail from [[Tulu language|Tulu]] speaking [[Bunt (community)|Bunt]] community.

Amitabh Bachchan is the son of Hindi poet [[Harivansh Rai Bachchan]], who married Shyama and Teji Bachchan. Amitabh's wife is actress [[Jaya Bachchan]]. Their children are Shweta Bachchan Nanda and actor [[Abhishek Bachchan]]. Shweta is married to [[Nikhil Nanda]], the son of [[Ritu Nanda]] and grandson of actor [[Raj Kapoor]]. Shweta's children are son Agastya Nanda and daughter Navya Naveli Nanda. Abhishek is married to [[Aishwarya Rai Bachchan]], and they have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan.
