A. D. Thomas (born 1996) is an Indian politician and educator serving as the member of the legislative assembly (MLA) for the Alappuzha constituency. Elected in the 2026 Kerala Legislative Assembly election, he is one of the youngest members of the 16th Kerala Niyamasabha.[1]
Early life and career
A. D. Thomas was born in Alappuzha and pursued a career in teaching after completing his graduation. He became involved in student politics through the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and later the youth wing of the Congress party. Prior to his election, he was known for organizing youth-led community service programs and advocating for urban development in the Alappuzha municipality.[2]
Political career
In the 2026 elections, Thomas was selected by the Indian National Congress to contest from Alappuzha, a seat held by the LDF since 2016. In a result described by local media as a youthful surge, he defeated the incumbent P. P. Chitharanjan by a margin of 11,208 votes.[3]
