Amsham Adhikari was an administrative title created by the British in Malabar in 1816 by Special Commissioner H. S. Graeme. The British divided the villages into amshams and each amsham's leader was designated Adhikari and given control of the village. They exercised police powers and had the right to collect taxes.[1][2][3][4][5]
