Appaji (Template:Lang-kn) is a 1996 Indian Kannada-language action drama film starring Vishnuvardhan and Aamani in the lead roles. The film was directed by D. Rajendra Babu, written by K. V. Vijayendra Prasad and produced under Surya International banner. The film, upon release, met with positive reviews and was declared a superhit. The music was scored by M. M. Keeravani. The story writer of this movie, K. V. Vijayendra Prasad reutilized a famous sequence of this movie - "Taking lift cunningly in the guise of helping a vehicle which seems to be broken down" (just before the song "Ene Kannadathi" ) -later in the 2015 Hindi movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

Release

The movie received a U certificate (suitable for age groups) from the Indian film censor board despite the fact that the movie had several action filled violent scenes. This was something uncommon as the Indian film censor board CBFC has strict rules regarding film censoring.

The movie was released on 4rth January 1996. [2] The film received positive reviews upon release and was declared a Superhit at the box office. However, the film failed to repeat the grand success of Rajendra Babu - Vishnuvardhan duo's earlier venture, Halunda Thavaru.
