Ashutosh Agashe (born 21 October 1972) is an Indian cricket player and businessman. In his youth, he played the Ranji Trophy.[1] He is currently managing director of Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate.[2]

Early life

Agashe was born on 21 October 1972 into an aristocratic and entrepreneurial Chitpavan brahmin family of businessman Dnyaneshwar Agashe and wife Rekha Agashe (née Gogte).[3][4] He is a grandson of industrialist Chandrashekhar Agashe and a nephew of Panditrao Agashe through his father,[5] and a great-nephew of Raosaheb Gogte through his mother.[6] He has one brother and one sister.[7] He was married to Shalini Phadke,[8] a descendant of the Kurundwad Junior princely state of the Patwardhan Dynasty,[9] from 1997[10] till 2013.Template:Citation needed Some of his prominent relations include musician Ashutosh Phatak,[11] historian Dinkar G. Cricket career

Agashe played cricket under his college, the University of Pune,[15] before he represented his home state of Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy and played for the Maharashtra cricket team from 1997 to 1999.[16][17] His batting style is the Right-hand bat and his bowling style is Right-arm medium. He has also played List A from 1996 to 2000.[18] Agashe was part of his father's Maharashtra Cricket Association committee as a representative for the Club of Maharashtra.[19][20]

Business career

Agashe began as director to Brima Finance Ltd in 1994, and has been managing director at Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate since 1996.[21] He played a key role in establishing the partnership between Howling Wolves Wine Group of Australia and Brihan Maharashtra Sugar Syndicate in 2005 which planned to set up a wine production base in India.[21] He has been director at Agashe Brothers Financing Company since 2009 and Baumgarten and Wallia since 2010.[22]

He was elected the chairman of Suvarna Sahakari Bank for the year 2004-5.[23][24] He was one of the directors implicated during the Bank's alleged scam in 2008.[25][26][27] As managing director of the Syndicate, he received the DSK Group Energy Award of 2007 for corporate implementation of energy efficiency improvement measures.[28]

Philanthropy

During the COVID-19 pandemic in India in May 2021, Agashe donated oxygen concentrators to hospitals in Shreepur, Maharashtra.[29][30]
