Ashwin Porwal is a Pune-based procto-surgeon and the founder of Healing Hands Clinic.[1][2][3] He has developed a technique - Distal Laser Proximal Ligation (DLPL), to cure anal fistulas.[4] Porwal completed his M.B.B.S. from B.J. Medical College, Pune and did his specialization in proctology. He launched the Healing Hand Clinic in 2008.[5] In 2017, his organisation was recognised by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences to impart training to doctors in proctology. He has trained 180 surgeons in the field from various countries through short private courses. Only ten percent among those trained were able to perform the surgeries on large scale independently.[6]
He has also performed the pelvic organ prolapse suspension surgery (POPS) and stapled trans anal rectal resection surgery (STARR).[7] His research paper n DLPL earned him several accolades at the World Congress on Proctology, WorldCon 2017.[8][9]
