Controversy in seeking mercy for 1993 bomb blast convict
On 28 July 2015 Aslam Shaikh wrote a letter to then president of India Pranab Mukherjee seeking a mercy for 1993 bomb blast convict Yakub Memon.[6]
Outspokenness
Although Aslam Shaikh holds the textile ministry, he is vocal on a number of issues. During the second wave of Covid 19 in India, he asserted: "Some celebrities from the film industry and cricketers had mild symptoms or were asymptomatic, but they got themselves admitted to major private hospitals and occupied beds for longer periods."[3]
Criticizing the central government and the mainstream media for the biased reporting on 2020 Tablighi Jamaat COVID-19 hotspot in Delhi and Kumbh Mela in 2021 he said that the same people who accused the Tablighi Jamaat of spreading COVID-19 in the country have allowed thousands of people to gather at Kumbh Mela.[7]
