Baipan Bhaari Deva (Template:Translation) is a 2023 Indian Marathi-language drama film directed by Kedar Shinde and produced by Jio Studios, EmVeeBee Media.[3] It stars Rohini Hattangadi, Vandana Gupte, Sukanya Kulkarni, Shilpa Navalkar, Suchitra Bandekar, Deepa Parab.[4]

The film was already titled 'Mangalagaur' till the shooting of the film's title song "Baipan Bhaari Deva". Co-producer Ajit Bhure suggested Kedar Shinde to change the film title to 'Baipan Bhaari Deva'.[5]

The film grossed over Template:Indian Rupee in 50 days of theatrical run globally, emerged as a sleeper hit,[6] the biggest Marathi weekend opener[7] and it becoming the second highest-grossing Marathi film of all time and highest grossing Marathi film of 2023. This film also created a new record of highest one-day collection of more than ₹6.10 crores for Marathi film industry.[8] It is the highest grossing female-centric film in Marathi film industry.[9] Being made with the budget of ₹5 crore, the film is a critical as well as commercial success, praised for its writing, story, songs and its direction.

Plot

This film is the story of six sisters who are separated from each other due to some reason and also face family, personal and financial problems.[10]

Production

Development

On 8 March 2023, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to his social media accounts and shared the poster of the film.[11] The film's teaser was released on 28 April 2023.[12] Following this the title track was released on 6 June 2023 with the team visiting Mahalakshmi Temple in Mumbai.[13] The film's official trailer was launched on 13 June 2023 with the presence of the whole team and veteran actor Ashok Sharaf at Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Auditorium.[14]

Jio Studios announced the film on International Women's Day 2022.[15] Madhuri Bhosale of EmVeeBee Media produced the film in association with Bela Shinde and Ajit Bhure.[16][17]

Casting

The story of the film is about six sisters and women's centric, Shinde cast actresses Rohini Hattangadi,[18] Vandana Gupte, Sukanya Mone, Suchitra Bandekar, Deepa Choudhary, Shilpa Navalkar[19] in lead roles.[20]

Filming

Principal photography was started before Lockdown in India, but the shooting was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Maharashtra. According to Kedar Shinde, 80% shooting of the film was completed before the lockdown.[21] Post-production was completed after the lockdown.[22]

Release

Initially, the film was set to be released on 28 May 2021,[23] it was pushed to 28 January 2022[24] and then to 6 January 2023.[25] Finally, Baipan Bhaari Deva was released in theatres on 30 June 2023.[26]

Reception

Critical reception

A reviewer from Rediff rated four and half stars out of five stars and write: "Nice movie, but, whilst we must learn to respect our past, we must also learn to adopt to changing times!"[27] A reviewer from The Times of India rated three and half stars out of five and wrote "Baipan Bhaari Deva is an important film not only because it's relatable for women, but also because it helps men understand womanhood."[28] Kalpeshraj Kubal reviewed for Maharashtra Times gave three and half stars out of five says: In that movie, the protagonist tried to understand the man's hearing in the woman's mind and her femininity.[29] Reshma Raikwar of Loksatta wrote "The director has not set up this film in any preachy style and yet he makes us laugh while watching the film, some deep moments and some quick eye watering."[30] Saurav Mahind of Urbanly Pune Mirror rates three stars out of five says: Baipan Bhari Deva tries to portray the lost glory of womanhood and puts on a decent show for all the middle-aged women.[31] Nandini Ramnath of Scroll.in reviewed as Baipan Bhari Deva finds harmony amidst acrimony while also acknowledging the unique problems faced by women in domestic situations.[32] Vinod Ghatge of India Posts writes "Every character in this feels like yours and ours, so it directly connects with the audience and that connection is the success of this movie."[33]

Box office

India

On its opening day, the film grossed Template:Indian Rupee with around 340-350 screens.[34] The first weekend nett collection of the film is Template:Indian Rupee[35] and Template:Indian Rupee gross, becomes the biggest Marathi weekend opener of 2023.[36] It collects Template:Indian Rupee in five days, so that the film surpassed all other Marathi films at that time in terms of earnings and made it the highest grossing Marathi film of 2023.[37][38] In the first week film earned Template:Indian Rupee nett[39] and Template:Indian Rupee gross in Maharashtra.[40][41] On the eighth day of release, the film grossed more than the first day and grossed over Template:Indian Rupee, taking the total to Template:Indian Rupee.[42][43] On the ninth day, the film broke the record of Riteish Deshmukh's Ved by making a one-day collection of Template:Indian Rupee.[44] It has earned Template:Indian Rupee on the second Sunday, setting a new record of highest one-day collection.[45][46] Film collected Template:Indian Rupee in 10 days.[47] On eleventh day, the film grossed over Template:Indian Rupee in Maharashtra,[48] and Template:Indian Rupee nationwide.[49] The film grossed over ₹37.35 crore on fourteenth day and next day it stands at Template:Indian Rupee.[50][51] On the seventeenth day, the film crossed the ₹50 crore mark.[52] News18 reported that the film collected Template:Indian Rupee in 18 days.[53] The film grossed over ₹57.15 crore in 20 days.[54] The film crossed Template:Indian Rupee nett collection in three weeks at the box office.[55][56] On 24th day the film break the record of previous year release Ved lifetime nett box office collection, collected over ₹65 crore.[57][58] On 30th day, film collected Template:Indian Rupee in India.[59][60][61] The fourth week collection is Template:Indian Rupee.[62] It collected Template:Indian Rupee in 37 days,[63] and Template:Indian Rupee net 50 days in India.[64]

USA

The film collected Template:INRConvert in USA.[65]

Worldwide

The film collected ₹12 crores in the first week, ₹24 crores in the second week.[66] The film again collected ₹21 crore in the third week and ₹10 crore in the fourth week.[67] As of 13 August 2023 the film grossed over ₹90.5 crore globally, becoming the second Marathi highest grosser of all time.[68][69]
