Chaal Jeevi Laiye! (Template:Translation) is a 2019 Indian Gujarati-language comedy-drama road film written and directed by Vipul Mehta. Produced by Rashmin Majithia, the film stars Siddharth Randeria, Yash Soni and Aarohi Patel.[1] The soundtrack was composed by Sachin–Jigar.[2] It became the highest-grossing film of Gujarati cinema, grossing over Template:Estimation.[3]

Plot

Aditya Parekh is a dedicated businessman who is the MD of his company called Quantum Networks. His aim was to expand his business across the globe and build reputation of his company all over the world. As a result, he had dedicated his life solely towards his work. He neither came home on time, nor spent time with his father Bipin Chandra Parekh. Bipin was worried by Aditya's lifestyle. He once told Aditya that working 24x7 won't do any good to him. He should also spend sometime with his father also, which would make him happy. However Aditya ignored this and asked his father to allow him concentrate on his work.

The next day, when Bipin and Bhala Kaka were getting ready for breakfast, they heard a sound from Aditya's room. They observed that Aditya had fainted. They immediately took him to the hospital for a check up. Dr. Vadia asked Bipin to get his tests done for ensuring health safety. Dr. Vadia later calls Aditya and informs him that his father is suffering from a brain tumour called Pontime Glioma, which is not treatable at any cost, and that Bipin has little time left. This shocked Aditya and he begged Doctor to find out specialist doctors to treat his father. Dr. Vadia informs him that Dr. Anderson is a surgeon but he is not available for a week. Aditya was left very upset. Bipin tell Aditya that before dying, he wants to see Kedarnath and visit Ganga River. Aditya initially refuses, but when Dr. Vadia insists, he agrees.

Aditya and Bipin leave for their journey and complete the Ganga River visit.

Bipin then expressed his wish to visit Chopta, to which Aditya refuses. But Bipin ignores him and hires a jeep. They both leave for Chopta and experience minor happy moments. Later, they observe an unconscious girl (Ketki Mehta) lying on the road. First they think she is dead, and Aditya refuses Bipin to entertain her in any way, but Bipin again ignored him and approaches the girl and called her "Maasi". The girl immediately arose and felt offended to be called a Maasi. She said she was separated from her group, and had to adopt this approach to get a lift. Bipin agreed to give her lift till Chopta.

Production

The film is shot in Uttarakhand including at Haridwar, Chopta and Kedarnath.[4]

Release

The film was released in India on 1 February 2019.[6] Following success, it was released in Australia on 14 March 2019, and in New Zealand, and United Kingdom on 15 March 2019.[7] The film was also released in Germany, Singapore, Canada and in some countries of Africa. The film completed 50 weeks in cinemas on 17 January 2020. It was re-released on 31 January 2020 with subtitles and some additional shots.[3]

Reception

Box Office

According to Bookmyshow, an online ticket booking website, the film earned around Template:INRConvert on its first day and almost Template:INRConvert in first week.[8] According to trade analyst Komal Nahta, the film became the highest-grossing film of Gujarati cinema.[9][10] It had collected the gross of approximately Template:INRConvert and the netted approximately Template:INR in India. In overseas market, according to Rentrak, the film earned $130,000 in US, $53,031 in United Kingdom, $81,814 in Australia, $13,159 in New Zealand and $25,000 elsewhere. The film grossed over approximately about $3,03,004 (Template:INR) in total in overseas market.[3]

Critical response

The film received mostly positive reviews by the critics. Shruti Jambhekar of The Times of India rated it 4 out of 5 and praised the director for screenplay, editing, cinematography, music and performances.[1] Saurabh Shah rated it 4 out of 5 and praised direction, music and performances but criticised the length of the climax.[11] Mid-day Gujarati noted the trend of films based on the father-son relationships and gave a positive review.[12] Tushar Dave writing for Sarjak.org praised the film for its message, cinematography, music and performances of lead actors but criticised some dialogues, melodrama, performance of Aruna Irani and length of the climax.[13]
