Dilip Piramal (born November 2, 1949) is an Indian businessman. He is the chairman of the VIP Industries, India's largest luggage manufacturer.

Early life

Dilip Piramal was born on November 2, 1949, in Mumbai.[1] He is of Indian descent.[2] His grandfather Piramal Chatrabhuj owned a textile business, in 1934. In 1979, after his father Gopikrishna Piramal's sudden death, Dilip Piramal ventured into the luggage business VIP, while his brother Ajay Piramal started out in the family's textile business, they diversified and expanded into pharma, acquiring Nicholas Laboratories in 1987.[3]

Education

Piramal received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics in 1970.[4][5]

Career

Piramal began his career as a director of Morarjee Mills in 1970. Five years later he took the position of a managing director of the same company and held it until 1980.[6] In 1973, Dilip became a director of Blow Plast Ltd. Since 1980 he has been a chairman and managing director of Blow Plast Ltd. and VIP Industries[7]

Personal life

Dilip married Gita Piramal in 1975.[8] They have two children. They divorced in 2005.[9]

Dilip married Shalini Piramal in 2005.[10] They have one child.[11]
