Ek: The Power of One is a 2009 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film directed by Sangeeth Sivan, starring Bobby Deol, Nana Patekar and Shriya Saran. It is a remake of the Telugu-language film Athadu (2005).[1][2]

Plot

Template:More plot Nandkumar “Nandu” Sharma, a contract killer, is hired along with his associate Shekhar by politician Anna Mhatre to stage a fake assassination attempt on Mhatre during a public meeting in order to gain sympathy votes. However, the plan goes wrong when Mhatre is actually shot dead by an unknown assailant. In the ensuing chaos, Shekhar is presumed dead, and Nandu escapes by jumping onto a moving train.

On the train, Nandu encounters Puran Singh, who is returning to his native village, Chambela, after many years. When police attempt to capture Nandu at a station, they open fire but accidentally kill Puran instead. Taking advantage of the confusion, Nandu escapes and later travels to Chambela to inform Puran’s family of his death. Upon arrival, Puran’s family mistakes Nandu for Puran and welcomes him back. Unable to reveal the truth immediately, Nandu assumes Puran’s identity.

Over time, Nandu becomes emotionally attached to the family and begins to resolve their personal and financial problems. He also develops a romantic relationship with Preet Kaur, Puran’s childhood friend. Nandu eventually confides his true identity to Guru, Puran’s close friend, who chooses to support him.

Meanwhile, CBI officer Nandkumar Rane is assigned to investigate Mhatre’s murder. His inquiry leads him to Chambela, where he grows suspicious of Nandu. Before Rane can confront him, Nandu flees. Rane subsequently informs Puran’s family of Puran’s death, leading them to believe that Nandu deceived them.

After learning of the family’s reaction, Nandu returns and admits his true identity. Although initially hurt, the family comes to accept him after recognizing his actions and intentions. Determined to clear his name, Nandu gathers evidence against those responsible for the conspiracy.

Nandu discovers that Shekhar is alive and was responsible for killing Mhatre, having framed Nandu for the crime. He also uncovers the involvement of politician Joshi, who had orchestrated the plot. Nandu records a confession from Joshi implicating both himself and Shekhar.

In a confrontation, Nandu kills Shekhar in self-defense. He later hands over the recorded evidence to Rane, who uses it to confront Joshi. Facing exposure and legal consequences, Joshi commits suicide.

With the case resolved, Rane acknowledges Nandu’s role in uncovering the truth and allows him to go free under Puran’s identity. Nandu performs Puran’s last rites and returns to Chambela to start a new life.
