Government Arya Degree College (GADC) Nurpur is one of the constituent colleges of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla.[1] It was established in 1978 and is located at Nurpur in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, India. Four undergraduate courses are offered by the college: trade, humanities, technology, and vocational studies.[2] For the academic year 2019–2020, approximately 2,200 students were enrolled in the program.Template:Citation needed
History
Government Arya Degree College Nurpur was established as Arya College for Girls in June 1978 as a private college.[3] The college was established with the motive to teach the values of Arya Samaj to the students. The college was taken over by the Government of Himachal Pradesh on June 25, 2002, and was renamed Government Arya Degree College Nurpur. It was converted into a co-educational institute with only an arts stream as the only program. The science and commerce streams started from the academic session 2009-2010.
As of June 2017, a Bachelor of Vocation Degree (B. Voc.) program was started by the college under a scheme established by the University Grants Commission.[4]
The college also serves as the Himachal Pradesh University assessment center.
Courses
The college offers three-year undergraduate degree courses. The syllabus follows the guidelines of RUSA and Himachal Pradesh University. The students are required to choose one major and two minor subjects and can major in any of the following subjects:
- Humanities: Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Music, Physical Education, Political Science, Public Administration, Sanskrit, Sociology.
- Science: Botany, Chemistry, Computer, Physics, Mathematics, Zoology
- Commerce
Additionally, the college also offers a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) degree in
