Kazhakoottam is also known as the information technology hub of Kerala and is one of the fastest growing area of the state. The information technology industry gave the fame to this region of Thiruvananthapuram city, also called New Trivandrum.

History

Kazhakuttom was the centre of power for Kazhakuttathu Ugran Pillai who was prominent among the so-called Ettuveetil Pillamar (Pillais from Eight Houses) who rebelled against Travancore King Marthanda Varma in the late 18th century. After defeating Pillai, Varma destroyed his palace and replaced it with a pond. To redeem himself, he built a temple to Krishna nearby. Both the pond and the temple survive.

The Kazhakuttom Mahadeva Temple is believed to be 1000 years old.

Legislative Assembly Constituency

Kazhakuttam assembly constituency is part of Trivandrum (Lok Sabha constituency). In the Kerala State Legislative Assembly, Kazhakootam is represented by Kadakampally Surendran from CPM. The assembly constituency, as part of the greater Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
Kazhakuttam ward councillor V.K. Prashanth from CPM was elected Mayor of Trivandrum in November 2015.[2]

Transportation

Kazhakoottam is major junction where the National Highway 66 (India) and National Highway 66 Trivandrum Bypass is joined. It is connected to the whole major destination by bus services from Kazhakoottam and others from Thiruvananthapuram city. Kazhakoottam is only Template:Convert away from Thiruvananthapuram city. The nearest airport is Trivandrum International Airport. The nearest major railway station is Kazhakuttam railway station.
