16th National Assembly of Pakistan represents the country's legislature following the 2024 general elections for the National Assembly, which constitutes the lower house of Pakistan's bicameral Parliament. As an "elected" institution, the National Assembly comprises 336 members serving during the 2024-2029 parliamentary term, designated as Members of the National Assembly (MNAs). Among these, 266 members are directly elected through electoral processes, while 60 seats are constitutionally reserved for women and religious minorities, allocated to political parties in proportion to their overall vote share.[1]

The legislature was constituted following the general elections 2024 in February, which produced Independent politicians backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as the single-largest faction, securing 93 seats, with Independents collectively holding 101 seats. However, a majority of these PTI-backed Independates subsequently alleged electoral rigging and declared their parliamentary affiliation under the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) as their legislative vehicle, as PTI itself could not officially participate in the Assembly due to Election Commission restrictions. This development led to the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) emerging as the formally recognised single-largest party. The Assembly has witnessed no party achieving an outright majority, prompting PML-N to form a coalition government with support from MQM-P, NP, IPP, and BAP, while the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), holding 68 seats, has extended confidence and supply arrangements to this coalition. The composition of reserved seats underwent significant changes when the Election Commission of Pakistan, citing legal issues regarding nomination paper filings, excluded PTI-backed SIC members from the 60 reserved seats for women and minorities. This decision precipitated the Reserved Seats case, culminating in the Supreme Court of Pakistan's suspension of 24 reserved seats in the Assembly, rendering them vacant. Subsequently, the Supreme Court recognised PTI as a party holding 39 seats, effectively overturning the Election Commission's earlier actions.
