Presidential reference is a question of law or fact of public importance referred to the Supreme Court of India by the President of India under the powers conferred by the Article 143 of the Constitution of India.[1]

Since 1950, there have been sixteen presidential references made under Article 143(1) of the constitution of which two were returned unanswered by the Court.[2][3]
