There are 852 species of reptiles that have been recorded in India.[1][2][3] About 57.6% of these species are endemic to the country (represented by "E").[1] The Western Ghats and Andaman and Nicobar Islands constitute the major endemic zones,[4][5] and along with the Himalayas, are amongst the reptilian hotspots.[6][7]
