Love & War is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period romantic drama film written, directed, and produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali under the banner of Bhansali Productions. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal in lead roles with Muzammil Ibrahim in a pivotal role.[1] The film is scheduled to release on 21 January 2027.[2][3][4]
The film was officially announced in January 2024. Principal photography began on 7 November 2024 in Mumbai.[5] Reports stated that the makers signed over 500 non-disclosure agreements to maintain secrecy around the film.[6] The film was initially planned for a Christmas 2025 release before being postponed multiple times.[7]

Production
Development
Sanjay Leela Bhansali developed Love & War as a large-scale romantic war drama starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.[8] Bhansali later described the film as “very important” and “difficult”.[1]
In interviews promoting the film, Vicky Kaushal described collaborating with Bhansali as a “dream come true” and praised the filmmaker as “a magician” and “a master”.[9][10]
Filming
Principal photography began in Mumbai on 7 November 2024.[5] In 2025, Bhansali reportedly planned a 15 to 20-day filming schedule for a large-scale song and dramatic sequence featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.[11][12][13]
Reports also indicated that multiple reshoots increased the film’s budget and production scale.[14]
Actor Ashwin Kaushal confirmed his involvement in the film and stated that he would portray Ranbir Kapoor’s father.[15]

The film was initially scheduled for release on 25 December 2025 before being postponed to 20 March 2026 and later to 21 January 2027.[2][3][7]
Home media
The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film were reportedly acquired by Netflix.
