Macherla is a village in Palnadu district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Macherla mandal in Gurazala revenue division.[1]
History
As per Gazettee No. 939 of 26 January 2022, the old Guntur District, formed in 1904, was split into three districts – Guntur, Palnadu and Bapatla.[2]
Geography
Macherla town covered an area of 10.26 sq km.[3]
Demographics
According to the 2011 census Mancherla town has a population of 57,290. It had a literacy rate of 71.13%. [3]
Transport
Macherla railway station is a terminus station having only one platform. 3 trains originate/terminate here. This station is on the electrified single line Nadikudi-Macherla section of Guntur railway division of South Central Railway.[4][5]
Education
- SKBR Government Degree College, established at Macherla in 1966, offers various degree and postgraduate courses. It has 2,000 students.[6]
- Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, established in 2001 at Macherla, is a Telugu medium girls only boarding school having facilities for teaching from class VI to class X.[7]
